CASTING in NYC - Deadline February 4, 2019
Only Child Aerial Theatre (ASYLUM NYU Skirball CN:ICE, Framework INSITU Site-Specific Dance Festival) is CASTING collaborating artists for a new, immersive experiential performance event that will be shared with approximately 40 audience members per evening in May 2019.
SEEKING a diverse array of soulful creator/performers for our upcoming intimate, immersive aerial theatre experience. Specifically seeking dancers, musicians/singers, rap/spoken word/poetry artists, actors, writers, visual artists, culinary artists, and circus artists (ground focus: juggling/object manipulation, hand-balancing, partner acrobatics, non-traditional contemporary circus disciplines especially welcome; aerialists may submit if you have other skills listed in this casting notice). All ages, ethnicities and genders encouraged to submit.
The piece will be a highly curated shared experience for audience and performers alike, structured around the relationships between: collectivity (audience, critical mass) versus isolation (performer, individual) and extra-ordinary (simple) versus extraordinary (virtuosic). These relationships will be explored through narrative structure, performance disciplines, and shifting audience/performer relationships in a cozy performance space.
This is a collaboration between co-creators Nicki Miller (director) and Cassady Rose Bonjo (performer), and will include an 8-10 week creative research in March and April 2019. Research/rehearsals will be held approximately 2-4x per week during weekday daytime hours leading up to performance. Performance dates are May 10, 11, 17 and 18, 2019. Rehearsals and performance will take place in Bushwick, Brooklyn near the Jefferson St. L train station.
Collaborating artists must be available for weekday, daytime devising/research workshops and rehearsals in March and April 2019, as well as some evenings in early May 2019 leading up to performance TBD. Musicians unavailable for the whole run but interested in collaboration may still submit, but please be detailed about your availability.
Auditions will be held by appointment in Bushwick, Brooklyn on Monday February 11 and Tuesday February 12, 2019 11am-2pm. Callbacks Tuesday February 12, 3-5pm. We will ask you to prepare a 1-2 minute presentation for your audition, and we may also lead you in some structured improvisations.
To submit: please send headshot, resume, any video/promotional reels of skills you’d like to share and general availability for the dates listed above to firstname.lastname@example.org with subject line: BUSHWICK AUDITION SUBMISSION [your name]. IN ADDITION to traditional materials, please include your answer to the following questions: “What creative project or gesture (small or large) that you’ve made is the most meaningful to you, and why did you make it?” Please don’t over think this! Just be clear and sincere with your answer.
All submissions must be received by Monday February 4, 2019. If invited to audition, we will send you details on what to prepare with your appointment time by Friday February 8th, 2019.
